In der Routinediagnostik ist die Färbung mit Hämatoxylin und Eosin (H&E) die am häufigsten eingesetzte Methode zur Bewertung von Zell- und Gewebestrukturen durch Pathologen.

Obwohl es sich bei der H&E-Färbung um eine relativ einfache Technik handelt, kann die Bildung von Artefakten das Färbeergebnis stören. Diese Artefakte können ganz unterschiedliche Ursachen haben.
